Can I talk ?

Posted in Firangi, Toronto on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 by akashsaurav

I never expected her to talk to a complete stranger like me. As I was waiting in the lobby for the lift to come down, she came from the basement and stood next to me. Then she wispered to me “Can I talk to you for a minute?” I couldnot hear anything because my iPod was at its max volume.

She repeated. This time, i removed the headphone and listened to her.
“I had a fight with my boyfriend, and he hit me hard”

Slowly she removed her shades and I was shocked to see her bleeding from the eyes. Her eyes were completely smashed. and she was literally sobbing while speaking.
“It was my fault and ..” I stopped her and tried to console her, “whatever the reason, your boyfriend has no rights to hit you”.
Just that moment, a black guy also joined us.

She asked me if she could join me in my apartment, she knew very well that her boyfriend is coming to her apartment and the fight might aggravate.

Though i wanted to help her, but i said “I am not a canadian, and would be of no use”. She became more upset.

The black guy almost heard everything and when i directed her to approach him, she went a step ahead and talked to him. The black guy was least interested to help her. He charged back saying “call the police”.

The girl, visibly upset, asked for pardon and requested him to forget the whole incident.

By this time, the lift had come and left without anyone of us getting into it.

After a while, an old-looking lady came and the black guy asked the girl to approach the lady. She went to the old lady and told her the same story. And I took the next lift.

I hope everything is fine with that girl.
God help her. Please.

A long wait of 3 hours at Bangalore Internation Airport, I finally boarded my flight to Toronto.

Throughout the flight I was given so many options to choose from. Food was good. Air hostess attending us was really nice and taking good care of us. But flying by Lufthansa was not very much different or better than other airlines. Though I heard a lot about Luft from fellow colleagues, but it was not astonishingly different. I would still say, Singapore Airlines is the best. On whatever yardstick you choose!

Aw! The voice who announced in Hindi was so different ;) [there are all kinds of ppl :o ]

Toronto looked nice from 30000 ft above. When I reached it was so hot. Even a guy like me was sweating like anything.

Again I waited at the Toronto Pearson airport for about 1 hour. And surprising I heard a lot of conversation in Hindi :D . My confidence was high after seeing so many “Desi” faces.

Took an Indian Sardar’s Limo. He was very cordial. Like any other Indian.:)

When I stepped into the apartment, i felt like i was with my friends. not with strangers.
Both Suraj and Basant are very friendly and very nice.
Thanks.
